Vanuatu Missions

25th Edition~November 2009

During this time after returning from my survey trip, I have been preparing for return to Vanuatu by taking courses and reading and learning as much as I can about the disabled population.  This will be my area of ministry when I return.  Those who are physically and or mentally impaired in Vanuatu are outcasts in their villages. Their families are shunned and shamed because of their disability.  Some view this population as cursed; therefore, these children are hidden, neglected, starved, and in extreme cases, killed in order to prevent a negative stigma being associated with the family or village community.

God has impressed upon my heart to go take part in this ministry in Vanuatu.  A group of teenagers from Australia had a burden for the “special needs” population in Vanuatu. They raised enough money so that a building has been recently designed and constructed to accommodate needs of disabled children.

I will be the principal of the 1st disabled school in Vanuatu which will eventually serve as a center. Caring for the disabled is an extremely new and foreign concept to the Vanuatu government and most people there; therefore, this undertaking will be challenging with many possible obstacles ahead.

I’m excited about this new ministry God has given especially because of the great opportunity for the GOSPEL to go forth.  These children and families have suffered mentally and some physically thinking they are worthless.  Oh how they will be receptive to the GOOD NEWS that Jesus loves them and gave his life for them! He will take care of them, and they are all priceless in His eyes!

My living accommodations will be very different than what I was accustomed to in Papua New Guinea.  I will live at Camp Shining Light, which is property with small houses and huts, toilet/shower facilities a short walking distance away, also an outside dining area where 3 meals are served cooked by those who live at the camp.  There are other missionaries who live on this camp site which is overseen by Philippe and Hazel Pinero who are pioneer missionaries serving in Vanuatu for 14 years now.  The other missionaries each have their own area of ministry in Vanuatu.  The camp serves as a safe living environment and support structure for those living there.

Vanuatu is a spiritually dark country.  Throughout this last year here in the US, the Lord has been preparing me for this new assignment.  I thank him for this preparation and I thank you for the encouragement you have given me through your continued support and prayers and financial giving. Please let’s continue making a difference in the lives of the people of Vanuatu for the glory of God.

Love in Christ, Tiffani Chaney
